Dehradun: In the political landscape of Uttarakhand, where electoral battle is soon to reach its peak, candidates seek blessings and strengthen connections. Anil Baluni, the BJP candidate from the Pauri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency, embarked on his poll campaign by visiting Yogi Adityanath’s ancestral village ‘Panchur’ and sought blessing of Yogi’s mother. He also visited the ‘Sain’, a native village of country’s first CDS Bipin Rawat and targeted Congress for disrespecting Rawat by using derogatory remarks against him.

Blessings from Yogi’s mother to carry forward his campaign

Yogi Adityanath’s native village comes under Pauri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency. On Sunday, Anil Baluni, the BJP candidate from the Pauri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency, visited the mother of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath at her residence in Uttarakhand’s Panchur village. During this meeting, he sought her blessings for his poll campaign.

Baluni visited ‘Sain’ village in Pauri

Anil Baluni also visited the ‘Sain’ the native village of the country’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat where he launched a scathing attack on the Congress party for disrespecting Bipin Rawat by making a derogatory remark. Baluni highlighted General Rawat’s journey from this humble village to becoming the nation’s first CDS which is an inspiration for the coming generation. “The Congress has a history of undermining the armed forces, seeking to demoralize them,” asserted Anil Baluni.

Congress party has no moral right to ask for votes in Uttarakhand

Baluni said that the Congress’s use of abusive language, labelling Rawat as a ‘gali ka gunda’ (a street goon) and questioning his valour and competence, deeply pained those who hold General Rawat in high regard. Furthermore, no leader of Uttarakhand Congress apologized for the remarks or called for accountability. Baluni asserted that the Congress party has no moral right to ask for votes in Uttarakhand.

BJP made all efforts to commemorate the sacrifices of martyrs

During his visit to Sain village, Baluni highlighted the efforts of BJP to commemorate the sacrifices of martyrs. He added, “The BJP conducted the ‘Shaheed Samman Yatra’ across the state, honouring the sacrifices of 1,734 martyrs by collecting soil from their villages. Additionally, the party is all engaged in construction of ‘Sainya Dham’ in Dehradun, aiming to foster national pride and inspire individuals to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Congress responded to these allegations

In response, Ganesh Godiyal, former Congress state president and the party candidate from the same seat, emphasized that the people of Uttarakhand will ultimately decide who holds the moral right to ask for votes. He mentioned Congress’s tribute and initiatives for people in uniform and said, “During Congress’s ‘Vijay Samman Rally’ in Dehradun, held to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, the Congress prominently displayed a large cutout of General Bipin Rawat alongside cutouts of Indira and Rahul Gandhi. The party also initiated a three-day ‘Veer Gram Pranam Yatra’, starting from Rawat’s ancestral village.”

BJP’s Candidate Baluni vs Congress’s Candidate Godiyal

The BJP has fielded Anil Baluni, the party’s national chief spokesperson, from the Garhwal seat. The Congress, on the other hand, relies on a former MLA (Srinagar seat) and former Congress state president, Ganesh Godiyal. Both candidates are contesting their first Lok Sabha elections.

General Bipin Rawat’s Legacy

The tragic helicopter crash near Coonoor (Tamil Nadu) in December 2021, which claimed the lives of General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and officers from his staff, remains a significant issue. During the 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttarakhand, the circumstances surrounding General Rawat’s passing were a key point of discussion. Uttarakhand, with a substantial population serving in the defense forces, witnessed both the BJP and Congress emphasizing matters related to the armed forces.

As the electorate prepares to cast their votes, the legacy of General Bipin Rawat continues to resonate, and the political landscape awaits its verdict.
