Assam Police seizes heroin worth Rs 2 crore, arrests two accused

Cachar: The Assam Police arrested two drug peddlers from Assam’s Cachar district and seized 375 grams of heroin from their possession. The operation was conducted last night. The seized drugs were worth Rs 2 crore. According to Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, the search operation was conducted after receiving credible information regarding the transportation of narcotic substances at Manipuri Market in Bagha Bazaar.

Two persons arrested in the case

“During the operation, the police team apprehended two persons and recovered 31 soap boxes containing heroin weighing approximately 375 grams from their possession,” news agency ANI quoted SP Numal Mahatta as saying. Adding further, Mahatta said that the two accused have been identified as Mohammed Mojibur Rahman Borbhuiya (27) and Hirumoni Laskar (27).

“The consignment of the narcotic substance was illegally transported from the Aizawl district of Mizoram. The NDPS substances have been seized and sealed on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses. The price of the narcotic substance in the black market is about Rs 2 crore. Further investigation is underway,” he added.

Last month, the Mizoram Police and Assam Police jointly seized heroin and foreign beer worth Rs 2.25 crore from three locations. The operations led to the arrest of two accused, including a Myanmar national.

According to the police, the Myanmar national was arrested on charges of possessing the contraband. The authorities had seized a total of 72 grams of heroin which was worth over Rs 50 lakh from the Myanmar national. The next day, the team of officials further seized 95 grams of heroin worth Rs 66.5 lakh from east Mizoram’s Champhai district and took one accused into custody.
