Kansas: In a heartbreaking incident in Kansas City, Missouri, a newborn baby lost her life due to a grievous mistake made by her mother. According to officials, Mariah Thomas, the mother of the infant, intending to put her baby down for a nap, accidentally placed her in the oven instead of her crib. Mariah Thomas, the mother of the infant, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following the incident.
Upon receiving a report of an infant in distress, police arrived at the spot. They found the infant with apparent burns, and pronounced her dead.
What officials said
Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Jean Peters Baker expressed grief over the loss. He said, “We acknowledge the gruesome nature of this tragedy and our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life.”
Thomas reportedly told officers that she had fed her child and then intended to lay her down in the crib for sleep. However, upon waking the next morning, she found out about the devastating mistake she had made.

“I didn’t realise it,” Thomas explained to authorities regarding the tragic error she made. Despite her assertion, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, including examining Thomas’s medical condition and analysing her phone.
As the case progresses through the legal system, Baker emphasised the importance of a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served. “This matter should be investigated thoroughly. It is very important to get justice in the case,” said Baker.
