Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai actor recalls facing sexual assault at 13: ‘No other pain matters’

New Delhi: TV star Saanand Verma who is renowned for his portrayal of Anokhe Lal Saxena in the popular sitcom Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, has opened up about a harrowing incident from his past. The actor disclosed in a recent interview that he was sexually assaulted at the tender age of 13 during a cricket match. Recounting the traumatic event, he described it as a “terrible memory” that continues to haunt him, emphasizing that the pain associated with it is indelible.

Saanand Verma opens up about disliking cricket

Saanand shared his ordeal in an interview with Times Now, revealing that the distressing incident occurred at a cricket training academy in Patna, Bihar. He recounted, “When I was 13, I desperately wanted to be a cricketer. I went to a cricket training academy in Patna, Bihar. There, a big guy tried to exploit me. I was extremely scared and ran away. Since then, I have stayed away from cricket.”

He added, “Whatever happened to me in my childhood is definitely a terrible memory, many terrible things have happened to me before. When a person has endured so much suffering, no other pain matters to them.”

The Apaharan actor also shed light on the prevalent issue of casting couch in the entertainment industry, acknowledging its existence and lamenting the distressing experiences shared by some of his peers. He said, “Casting couch exists here. I can’t give two opinions on this, but fortunately, nothing like this has ever happened to me. Many of my colleagues have told me about their painful experiences, which should never happen.”
