Bihar shocker: 55-year-old shopkeeper shot at over asking money for gutkha

Patna: A shopkeeper was shot at by miscreants after he asked them to pay for Gutkha (chewing tobacco) on Monday late night in Bihar’s Arrah district. The shopkeeper, who sustained bullet injuries, is undergoing treatment at the government hospital. His health is said to be critical.

The shocking incident took place in Lahang Dumariya village which comes under the limits of Bihiya police station in Arrah. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Vijay Saah and the incident took place around 3 am.

Miscreants shoot Saah for asking money for Gutkha

According to the complaint, three to four men came to Saah’s shop around 3 am and asked him to open the shop as they wanted to purchase Gutkha. Saah, who runs his shop from his house, opened the door and gave them Gutkha. After eating gutkha, the miscreants started walking towards the village and denied paying him money for the purchase they made. As soon as Saah asked for money, one of the miscreants took out the pistol and shot him and fled.

Saah rushed to the hospital

Immediately after the incident, Saah’s family members rushed him to Sadar Hospital. As Saah’s condition is critical, he was referred to the district hospital in Arrah after initial treatment. As per the latest update, Saah underwent urgent surgery and his health is now said to be stable.

Efforts underway to nab the miscreants

In a statement, Dr Vikas Singh said a 55-year-old man, who had sustained bullet injuries, was brought to the hospital for treatment. “He had sustained bullet injuries in his stomach. The operation was performed immediately and now he is stable,” Singh added. A case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was filed. The probe is underway and the efforts are ongoing to nab the miscreants.
