A special court hearing the alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy on Tuesday sent her to judicial custody till April 9 after the Enforcement Directorate did not seek her further custody and urged the court to send her to judicial custody.

Kavitha has been lodged in Tihar’s Women’s jail

Kavitha, who is the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was taken to Tihar Jail yesterday evening and was lodged in the jail number 6, which is a dedicated prison for women prisoners, after completion of formalities.

Tihar Jail officials told News9Live that Kavitha, who is also a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, would be provided the normal jail food provided to other inmates and other facilities available to a prisoner as per the jail manual.

The prisoners are provided food at fixed time in the jail and they have fixed time for watching television. The inmates have other options available with them to utilise their time during the day, including accessing books in the Tihar Jail library and taking part in various other activities run by the jail administration.

The court order permitted the BRS leader to have home-cooked food, a mattress, slippers, clothes, a bedsheet, a blanket, books, pen and paper and medicines and she has also been allowed to wear jewellery. The jail administration has provided her mattress, slippers, clothes, a bedsheet, and a blanket as per the jail rules as well as her medicines.

“She has mostly kept to herself and so far has not made any specific demand. She will be provided the same facilities provided to other inmates as per the jail manual,” a jail official told News9Live, adding that if there is something specific mentioned in the court order, it would be provided to her.
