The Congress party has named Kadiam Kavya, daughter of former Telangana Deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari, as its candidate from Warangal Lok Sabha constituency.

The candidature of Kadiam Kavya was announced on Monday night. Kavya and her father Srihari, joined the Congress on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister and state Congress president A Revanth Reddy.

Speaking to the media, Srihari said, “For various reasons, people are moving away from BRS. So, to serve the people and to do something for the constituency, he will take a call (on joining the Congress party).”

Kavya, who was named as the BRS candidate from Warangal, had recently given up the ticket citing recent allegations of corruption and phone tapping against the previous BRS government.
In recent weeks, several senior leaders have quit BRS and joined either the ruling Congress or the BJP in Telangana.

Telangana will go to polls on May 13. There are 17 Telangana Lok Sabha seats and Congress has so far put out 15 candidate names. The party hopes to win at least 14 seats, Revanth Reddy said at a speech in a public meeting recently.
