Mumbai: Dasha Mata is worshipped and revered on the Dashami tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month. This year’s auspicious date falls on Thursday, 4th April. The Hindu tradition holds that performing puja, archana (ritualistic worship), and observing vrat (fast) dedicated to Dasha Mata alleviates poverty and improves life direction during difficult times.

This day, women tie ten knots in a special 10-thread string made from raw yarn called dora. Afterwards, they perform puja and archana around a peepal tree while holding the dora, which represents Dasha Mata herself and is worn around the neck throughout the year. In this article, we will explore the meaning and rituals of this vrat.

Significance of Dasha Mata Worship

Women wear the dora around their necks for the entire year after performing puja and archana for Dasha Mata. One is believed to be free from all troubles and to bring progress to the household members by doing so. If one cannot wear it for a year, one can dedicate it to the deity during Shukla Paksha of the month of Vaishakh.

Cleanliness is an important aspect of this vrat, and rituals like buying household goods and brooms are part of it. This vrat protects from all sorts of problems, according to ancient scriptures.

The puja is conducted in the shade of the peepal tree, with threads tied around it, followed by listening to religious stories.
