New Delhi: Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has extended his wishes for pacer Akashdeep after he received his maiden Test call-up. He has been included in the Indian team for the remaining three Tests against England.
Akashdeep has been included in the squad for the last three Test matches as a fourth fast bowler. He had taken 103 wickets in 29 first-class matches, at an average of 23.18 and an economy of 3.08.
Tiwary took to his official X account to wish the pacer and also revealed that he deserved this selection. Akash Deep performed brilliantly for India A against England Lions and thus built a case for his selection to the national side.
“Very happy to see my younger teammate #AkashDeep getting selected in team India for the next three test matches against England. Deserved it 200 hundred percent. Thank u to the selectors for the genuine selection. Congratulations and best wishes always #BCCI,” Tiwary wrote on his account.

Mental fortitude key in international cricket: Akash Deep
During an interaction with PTI, after playing Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Kerala, Akash Deep revealed that mental fortitude plays a huge role in international cricket and even sometimes more than skill.
“I was hopeful that shortly, I might get a Test call-up if I keep performing but I didn’t expect that it would come by the third match itself,” Akashdeep was quoted as saying to PTI.
“Inswing is my stock delivery but at this level, you need to have outswing and reverse swing and more importantly need to control the swing. I was in (India) ODI squad in South Africa and realized more than skill, at this level, it is more about the mental strength of being able to execute plans under pressure,” he added.
The Ben Stokes-led side won the series opener by 28 runs in Hyderabad and then lost the second Test match in Vizag by 106 runs. They will aim to become the first team in 11 years to have defeated India in the longest format on their home soil. It should be noted here that the Alastair Cook-led side was the only England team who had won the 2012/13 Test series.
