ECI suspends flying squad head in Nilgiris over laxity in checking DMK candidate A Raja’s vehicle

Nilgiris: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday suspended the head of the Flying Squad Team Ms. Geetha for being reluctant to check Nilgiris constituency DMK candidate A Raja’s vehicles at the state check post near Coonoor-Kerala. The entire FST team has been replaced.

“The head of the flying squad team in Nilgiris, Kerala suspended for laxity in duty while checking the vehicle of A Raja, DMK party candidate, at an interstate check post near Coonoor. Head of the flying squad team Geetha has been suspended for duty lapses & entire FST team replaced,” the statement from Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu read.

The EC sources say the expenditure observer had visited the spot and made inquiries. He also viewed the two videos recorded by the video surveillance teams. Both videos show casual and superficial checking. The other cars in the cavalcade were not checked.

EC has taken serious note

The sources further added that the EC has taken serious note of the soft approach towards a prominent candidate. All political parties and candidates will be dealt with firmly if found to be violating the MCC guidelines issued by ECI for a level playing field in ensuring free and fair elections.

Nilgiris incumbent MP A Raja, the DMK candidate for the Nilgiris Parliamentary constituency, filed his nomination at the Collector’s Udhagamandalam / Ooty on Wednesday.
