New Delhi: After stitching up alliance with BJP just days before of Lok Sabha Election 2024, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary has slammed Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav calling his style of functioning as ‘opaque’. The Jat leader from Western Uttar Pradesh has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying his government has a progressive agenda.

In an exclusive interview with Kartikeya Sharma, Managing Editor, News9, Jayant Chaudhary opened up on a host of issues ranging from his party’s break up of alliance with Samajwadi Party to “no shared vision with the INDIA bloc”.

“The best decisions are taken with an understanding for the future. The way government is working, NDA is in place, there seems to be lot of strategic thinking in the government’s functioning. The govt has a progressive agenda, some may call it ‘aggressive’. But they are talking about the issues the nation will confront in future,” Jayant Chaudhary said.

Jayant on breakup with Samajwadi Party

The Jat leader also talked about the tension with Samajwadi Party and why he broke up with the Akhilesh Yadav.

“Not everything needs to be discussed in public. But the fact of the matter is we were being squeezed. Every larger partner wants to appropriate more space and that is natural. We I had to look out for our party, what our future was and the decision (to break with SP) was taken as it was a better fit for us,” the RLD leader claimed.

Jayant said it was not a decision to align with the BJP but realign with the Opposition. He also said Akhilesh Yadav’s style of functioning was very opaque.

‘No shared vision with the INDIA bloc’

According to RLD president, there was no shared vision with the INDIA bloc and the alliance did not have one leader.

Jayant claimed, “The INDIA bloc is confronted by a PM who has his own traction. BJP may have lesser votes, but the PM adds another layer to it. INDIA bloc should have had ten leaders, focused on issues”.

Jayant also said that there is a feeling of despondency among the INDIA alliance leaders. “There is a lack of clear strategic vision, lack of communication, lack of strategy on how to hit the ground. It is easy to sit in a seminar and not have a vision on how to take issues to the people,” Jayant added.

PM Modi’s capabilities a challenge for Rahul

He, however, refused, to make any comparison between PM Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. “If you look at charisma, decision-making, communication capabilities and the ability to connect with a wide audience across regions, demographies, what Modi Ji has been able to accomplish is unprecedented, so it’s a big challenge for Rahul Ji,” Jayant said.

“Rahul Gandhi is very connected to certain issues. There is very little acceptance to Rahul’s vision within INDIA bloc and in Congress too. Whatever decisions Rahul Ji takes seem to be reactionary, there is no strategy,” Jayant claimed.

The Jat leader further added that Rahul is a well-meaning individual and is multi-faceted.
