Five Chinese engineers killed in suicide attack in northwest Pakistan

Five Chinese nationals were killed in a blast when their convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday, a top police source told Reuters.

The Chinese engineers were killed after an explosive laden vehicle rammed into their convoy. The Chinese nationals were on their way from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a local police official Mohammad Ali told the news agency.

A Pakistani driver, who was driving the vehicle carrying Chinese nationals, was also killed in the blast. Dasu area, which is the site of a dam, has been attacked in the past by militants.
In 2021, 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals, were killed when a bus they were travelling in was attacked with explosives.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police officials have arrived at the spot and carrying out relief operations. Other people in the convoy were rescued said a police official.
