Gujarat: History-sheeter among three arrested for thefts and loots in Surat

Surat: A special unit of the Gujarat police arrested three men, including a history sheeter who used to wear a wig to avoid getting caught, on Tuesday in connection with a loot. The three men, who were identified as Praful Garange, Sharif Khan and Kanu Solanki, were arrested for their involvement in a series of snatchings, loots and thefts in different cities of Gujarat.

Gujarat police solve several theft cases

With the arrest of the three men, the Gujarat police solved several cases of snatchings, loot and thefts registered in Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. Several vehicles, gold, cash and other materials were recovered from the possession of three men.

History sheeter Praful Garange arrested

According to a senior police officer, Garange used to wear a wig while committing the crime and remove it later to avoid getting caught. At least 12 criminal cases were filed against Garange in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Theft in Surat’s Umra village

The three criminals had on February 10 snatched a bag containing Rs 4.40 lakh from the possession of a man in Surat’s Umra village. Soon after the incident, the man filed a police complaint under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). During the probe, the police officials raided several locations, including an ice factory in the Sayan area where the criminals were hiding. All three criminals were arrested immediately and taken into custody.

Modus operandi of three criminals

“The criminals used to keep vigil outside the banks, shops and houses to carry out theft and loot incidents. Before carrying out loot or snatching, the criminals used to change the number plate of motorcycles to avoid getting caught. These three criminals had looted a bag containing Rs 5.49 lakh in the Dindoli. Also, they had snatched jewelleries of two women in Vadodara,” a senior police officer said.
