Hailstorm in Hyderabad: SRH and MI blast most sixes, jointly top highest boundary count in IPL history

New Delhi: The Hyderabad crowd witnessed a run-fest as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) piled up 523 runs to make it the highest-scoring match in the history of IPL. Several records were rewritten on Wednesday as the home side SRH beat MI by 31 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to clinch their maiden victory of the tournament.

It is understood that the highest-ever aggregate in just 120 balls will have something to do with the boundaries. The IPL boundary records went reeling as the SRH vs MI clash jointly topped the highest boundary count (fours and sixes) list in an IPL match. The batters of both sides jointly struck as many as 69 boundaries to level with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) who hit exact 69 boundaries back in 2010 at the Chepauk.

67 – PBKS vs LSG – Lucknow (2023)
67 – PBKS vs KKR – Indore (2018)
65 – Deccan Chargers vs RR – Hyderabad (2008)

Maximums at peak in Hyderabad

The SRH vs MI clash also registered the record for most sixes in an IPL match as both sides partnered for 38 maximums that compelled the Hyderabad crowd to cheer at the top of their lungs. They surpassed the previous record of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and CSK who hit 33 sixes at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru back in 2018.

33 – RCB vs CSK – Bengaluru (2018)

Alongside the combined sixes record, SRH and MI registered the IPL record individually as well, hitting the most number of sixes in a team innings. MI fared better than SRH here with 20 sixes, the joint second most. SRH hammered 18 sixes in their innings which was the joint third-most sixes record by an IPL team in an innings. The epic RCB vs Pune Warriors India (now defunct) 2013 clash in Bengaluru still tops the list with as many as 21 sixes.
