‘He is the best’: Former England star credits Virat Kohli for transforming Indian cricket

New Delhi: Virat Kohli has revolutionised Indian cricket in multiple ways. Be it his fighting nature, positive attitude, fierce competitive spirit or extraordinary athleticism, Kohli has been a source of inspiration for millions across the globe.

Kohli’s contemporaries have also recognised his contribution to cricket on the whole. One of Kohli’s main strengths has been his fitness, which is a source of envy for other cricketers. Perhaps that’s why former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen believes Kohli should be picked in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.

Pietersen said that Kohli should be credited for turning his teammates into ‘out and out’ athletes, calling him the person who has staged an incredible turnaround in Indian cricket.

Pietersen commented after Kohli’s remarks where he subtly took a dig at his detractors by saying that he still has the game to excel in the T20 format.

Pietersen told Star Sports, “One of the things that everyone will remember and will create the greatest memories as a player will be him finishing innings and being one the greatest finishers of all time.

“One of the things that he has done for Indian cricket is he has turned Indian cricketers into athletes, out and out athletes, and while doing so, he’s not just talked the talk. He has walked the walk, and you can see that.”

The former English batter also lauded Kohli for his commitment to the team which reflects in his actions on the field. Pietersen gave an example of how Kohli runs between the wickets with full commitment and energy. He added that Kohli’s desire to be the best has made him the best.

“When he is running between the wickets, his full commitment, energy and desire is to be the best and he is the best”, said Pietersen.

During the knock, he also became the first Indian batter to score 100 fifty-plus scores. Kohli deservedly won the Man of the Match award – his 17th in IPL – equalling the legendary MS Dhoni in the list.
