ICF Chennai achieves record production of 2,829 coaches including 51 Vande Bharat rakes in FY 2024

Chennai: The city-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF) that manufactures railway coaches, Vande Bharat trains, and others, rolled out 2,829 railway coaches in the financial year 2023-24, up from 2,702 coaches produced in the previous year.

“ICF’s coach production is scaling new heights year over year. In the last production year (2023-24), ICF had turned out 2829 coaches as compared to 2702 coaches rolled out previous production year (2022-23),” PRO of the Integral Coach Factory Chennai said in a statement.

Similarly, the Highest number of 51 Vande Bharat rakes was produced by ICF in FY 24. Of these 45 rakes are 8 car rakes and 6 rakes are 16 car rakes. During the previous year (2022-23) 12 rakes of Vande Bharat trains were manufactured by ICF.

CF plans to produce 3,000 train coaches in FY 25

All the Vande Bharat trains running in the country are manufactured by ICF in Chennai. Besides two 22-coach Amrit Bharat trains have also been manufactured at the factory here. Similarly, 19 automatic inspection coaches have been prepared. The ICF plans to produce 3,000 train coaches for the financial year 2024-25.

ICF- Chennai, the flagship coach factory of Indian Railways located in Tamil Nadu’s capital city, is arguably the largest rail coach manufacturer in the world with 70,000 coaches manufactured at the factory.

This factory was established in 1955 by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Perambur, Chennai. Most of the country’s trains were manufactured in this factory.

The coaches manufactured here mostly go to Indian Railways but are also exported to foreign countries like Thailand, Burma, Taiwan, Zambia, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh.

Over 73,000 coaches have been manufactured at the Ayanavaram ICF factory, which manufactures integrated coaches.
