New Delhi: Khaleel Ahmed still harbours of making a comeback to the Indian team after helping Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs in IPL 2024.

Khaleel picked up 2/21 as Delhi Capitals beat defending champions CSK in Vizag on Sunday, posting 191/5 and then restricting CSK to 171/6.

The seamer was chosen as the player of the match for a spell that claimed the wickets of CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and his opening partner Rachin Ravindra.

His spell also included a maiden over and Khaleel aims to be consistent, hoping that such performances would help him earn a call-up to the national team again.

“Of course! The ultimate goal is to get back in the Indian team. It’s definitely the goal of mine. Kindly keep me blessing the same way,” Khaleel said after Delhi’s win.

The 26-year-old was glad that his grind in the domestic circuit paid off where he featured in a lot of games and improved ability to swing the ball.

“It’s all because of my consistent hard work at the domestic level. I have played a lot of matches in the last six months which has helped me know my game better. I have worked hard to swing the ball, and now I am getting results for it,” he said.

Improving his fitness and playing red-ball cricket in Ranji Trophy also helped him learn about the nuances of swing bowling, he said.
Delhi have now won one of their three matches while CSK have two victories in as many games.
