IPL 2024: Mohit Sharma, David Miller power Gujarat Titans to thumping 7-wicket win against SRH

New Delhi: David Miller and Mohit Sharma starred as Gujarat Titans (GT) hammered Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to bag their second win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Returning back to their home sparked a turnaround in their fortunes as the Shubman Gill-led GT returned to winning ways after slipping to a crushing defeat in their last game against the Chennai Super Kings.

Continuing from where he left last season, senior pacer Mohit Sharma produced yet another impressive spell for the hosts as his three wicket-haul helped GT restrict SRH to 162/8 in 20 overs. The hosts rode on crucial knocks from skipper Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and an unbeaten finishing cameo from David Miller to chase down the target comfortably with five balls to spare.

Miller was not doing well and battling illness ahead of the game but stood up for his team under pressure to deliver a match-winning knock. In pursuit of a 163-run target on a slightly two-paced surface, openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha got GT off to a flyer. While Saha scored 25 off 13 balls, Gill scored 36 off 28 as the duo added 36 runs for the first wicket. Gill shared a 38-run stand with Sai Sudharsan after Saha’s departure and looked in sublime touch.

However, the GT skipper failed to convert his good start into a big score as he was dismissed for 36 off 28 balls by spinner Mayank Markande in the 10th over. Sudharsan then joined hands with Miller to continue the momentum and put GT on the cusp of an easy win. The young Indian batter played a sedate knock of 36-ball 45 with the help of 4 fours and a solitary six.

He added 64 runs for the third wicket with Miller, who remained unbeaten till the end and got GT over the line comfortably with his cracking 44 off 27 balls laced with 2 sixes and 4 fours. It was a valiant knock from the Proteas left-hander, who proved why he remains a vital cog in the GT line-up as he battled fever and illness to shine in the chase.

Mohit Sharma continues to impress

Earlier, Gujarat Titans bowlers led by the experienced Mohit produced a disciplined effort to restrict high-flying SRH to 162/8 in 20 overs. Mohit picked up the important wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar to finish with excellent figures of 3/25 off his 4 overs.

While Mohit was the star with the ball, GT skipper Gill made brilliant bowling changes to keep the SRH batters quiet at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He introduced spin early in their innings to outsmart the dangerous Travis Head, who young left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad cleaned up while Rashid Khan removed Heinrich Klaasen cheaply on just 24 off 13 balls.
