IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant fined in Delhi Capitals’ win over Chennai Super Kings

New Delhi: Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was fined for his team’s slow over rate in their 20-run win over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024.

Pant was fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s code of conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, a statement said.

Pant led Delhi Capitals to their first win in IPL 2024 after beginning the tournament with back-to-back away losses.

In their adopted home of the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Pant scored his first half century of the tournament as Delhi posted 191/5 and then restricted CSK to 171/6.

Pant’s 32-ball 51, along with David Warner’s 52 and Prithvi Shaw’s 43 powered Delhi to a fighting total

Pant hot four boundaries and three sixes for his first fifty in 15 months since returning to action after recovering from a potentially career-ending car accident in December 2022.

Chennai made a valiant effort to chase down their 192-run target, through contributions from Ajinkya Rahane (45), Dhoni (37 not out) and Daryl Mitchell (34) but were pegged back by pacers Khaleel Ahmed (2/21) and Mukesh Kumar (3/21).

Delhi now have a win in three games and moved up to the seventh spot while with two wins and a defeat Chennai are second in the 10-team standings.
