Kashmir girl impresses Sachin Tendulkar with batting skills, video viral

Sopore: The video of a 7-year-old girl playing cricket has gone viral on social media. The girl who lives on the outskirts of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir has attracted the attention of cricketers from across the valley. So much so that a video of gers was shared by cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar on his social media handle.

Girl plays like a pro

The shots that the little girl, all of 7 plays, seem to be like a professional’s game. Her shots go high up in the air and make waves, shows the video. The girl’s name is Hurmat Irshad Bhat and sharing her video on ‘X’, Sachin Tendulkar wrote, “It’s always good to see young girls playing cricket. Watching videos like this brings a smile to my face.”

The girl from North Kashmir has taken the internet by storm through her cricketing skills. She dreams of leading India’s women’s cricket team one day. Hurmat is a student of Prime Public School in Zaingair. Talking about how she developed an interest in the sport, the girl gave credit to her grandfather. She said that he is the one who takes him to the ground and teaches her how to play the game. She said that she plays with the kids of the village almost everyday.

Hurmat is a fan of former Indian women’s cricket team captain, Mitali Raj. She claims to be impressed by her game. She said that she dreamt of playing for India one day and she is slowly working towards that goal.

Netizens demand coach, better facilities for girl

The girl’s father is a driver and he is overwhelmed by the response to his daughter’s videos online. Several netizens said that she should get a good coach which would help her game and allow her to become a part of women’s cricket when she comes to that age. People are praising her and her game and wish for a successful cricket career for her in future.

Expressing their happiness herfamily members said, “She is playing brilliant cricket at such a young age and if she gets support, she can represent not only Kashmir but also Team India in the future.” They claimed that her success could be an example for thousands of other girls like her, especially those living in villages. The family appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to help their daughter.

Following the abrogation of Article 370, a huge change was seen in sports activities, especially as regards participation of girls in Jammu and Kashmir. The special attention given by the Centre to sports activities, especially for girls is an important factor in motivating women to pursue sports. In the past women in Kashmir struggled to be recognised despite their contributions. But in the recent past, women have not only written their own success stories but also inspired others.

North Kashmir has produced several star players like 27-year-old international wheelchair basketball player, Insha, Kashmir’s first wrestler Nahida Nabi, female cricketers Ishrat Rasool, Tajamul Islam, Snobar Samader, Raunaq Riaz and many other players. They brought considerable fame for the Union Territory through their game.
