Noida: The Noida police have booked four people for their alleged involvement in a brawl outside Amity University in Sector 125, Noida. A video of the incident has circulated widely on social media platforms. Authorities have levied charges of rioting and causing hurt against the four suspects, who are believed to be students, although it is yet to be confirmed if they are students of Amity.
Savita Mehta, Vice President of Communications at the Amity Education Group, said, “The incident occurred outside the university. Moreover, it is not yet confirmed whether the students are from the university.”
What happened outside Amity University?
In the video footage that went viral on social media, several people can be seen engaged in physical violence, with one person even wielding a pan from a nearby shop as a weapon. In the video, some people were seen kicking, punching and slapping during the brawl. The police have initiated an investigation after taking cognizance of the video. The police have registered a FIR at the Sector 126 police station.
Rajneesh Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Police-1, Noida, said, “Taking suo moto cognizance of the video, four students identified as Tushar Nagar, and Prashant, Mohit and Bhati, were booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 147 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code.”
The exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, and it is yet to be determined if the people involved are indeed students of Amity University. The situation reportedly escalated within a span of two hours. Investigations into the matter are underway.
