Cops offer Biryani and cold drinks to man
After the Kolkata Police were alerted about the man in his 30s having climbed the iron structure with a rope and two flags, a team was immediately dispatched to the place. The man who lives in Tiljala had climbed up and began criticising the country’s politics.
The man had put himself in a very dangerous position, said eyewitnesses. According to the people present there, had the man fallen off the iron structure upon which he had placed himself, he would have come straight 40 feet down on the busy road. He would have either died of his injuries due to the fall or been hit by vehicles passing the road.
There are also railway tracks and electric poles in that area, about 100 feet from where the man stood. He could have got stuck in the poles or fallen on the railway tracks, said an officer who was part of the rescue team. In both the cases, death was certain for the man.
The fire personnel had also been called in to assist the police team in the rescuer work. Soon cops and the firemen started interacting with the man, while another group of police men and fire officials were climbing the iron structure using ladders. The cops promised the man cold drinks and Biryani if he came down. He was convinced and climbed down the bridge.
Man under treatment: Family
Once the man came down, his family was contacted. The family members informed cops that he was undergoing some medical treatment, as he was not mentally stable. The man who was initially taken to the Karaya police station was later shifted to the Kolkata National Medical College and Hospital.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. So far no case has been filed against him by the Kolkata Police.
