Bengaluru: A 21-year-old woman was raped by a man with the help of five more people near the Gangavathi bus stand of the Koppal district. Based on the complaint of the victim, the police have arrested five men and a manhunt has been launched for the main suspect.
The victim hails from Bengaluru’s Goraguntepalya and her husband is from Gangavathi. She had come to the town to meet her husband. The victim and her husband had a love marriage.
On February 9, at around 9:30 pm, the victim and her husband were quarrelling at the Gangavathi bus stand over some domestic issue.
A gang of six men noticed it and kept an eye on the couple. As the quarrel intensified, the gang intervened and thrashed the victim’s husband. They acted as if they were helping the woman.
After taking the victim’s huband away from the public glare, the gang attacked the woman and dragged her to a park near the bus stand.
One of the six accused Lingaraj raped the woman even as five other accused helped him. After the incident, the accused left the victim at the park and fled.
The victim managed to reach the Gangavathi Police Station and filed a police complaint. The police swung into action and arrested five men in the case. The main accused Lingaraj is absconding and the police have launched a manhunt for him. The victim was taken to a hospital and a medical check-up was conducted.
The arrested man have been identified as Maula Hussain, Shivakumar, Prashanth, Mahesh and Madesh. The police are searching for Lingaraj.
