As the country is set to witness Lok Sabha elections in seven phases from April 19 both the ruling NDA led by BJP and the Opposition INDI Alliance are leaving no stones to woo the voters. The INDI Alliance held its mega rally at Ramlila Maidan, in Delhi on Sunday. This is the first major rally of the Opposition alliance ahead of the Lok Sabha elections where Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita and Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana among others were present.

PM Narendra Modi addressed his first rally in Meerut, UP on Sunday, after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. He attacked the Opposition IND Alliance saying that it thinks that “Modi will be scared of them, but for me, my India is my family.”

As the elections progress, the voters are bound to weigh all options before casting their votes. Here is a look at some reasons why people will want to vote for PM Modi and why they will not want to take the Opposition INDI Alliance seriously.

Some reasons why people will vote for Modi

First of all the people have seen how PM Modi has worked tirelessly for them for these ten years. The numerous schemes that his government has announced in these last 10 years, keeping in mind public welfare have resonated well with the voters. His government’s schemes keeping in mind Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Jan Bhagidari and Modi Ki Guarantee have gone down well with the people. The construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya which realised the 500-year old dream of crores of Indian was made possible due to PM Modi’s strong willpower.

Harsh policy decisions

Additionally, as far as policy decisions are concerned, like the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the abolition of laws that have become irrelevant and making way for the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which is a new criminal code for the operation of the justice system, passing Triple Talaq Bill, Women Reservation Bill among other things the Modi government has taken big decisions.

Strong Foreign policy with Nation First mantra

The track record of the Modi government in terms of relations with foreign countries has been quite excellent thus making India a leader in Global South. At the same time, things like surgical strikes inside Pakistan, air strikes or dealing with China on LAC, the people saw a new and powerful India under the Modi government. An India which is now looking towards the interest of its people first and then acting accordingly. Under the new Mantra, the Modi government has been openly advocating its interests by defying global pressures due to the Ukraine war and even cultivating relations with a powerful nation like America. Under PM Modi India’s foreign policy has touched a new dimension where the country is being looked up to as a Vishwaguru.

Public welfare in mind

The benefits of the Modi government’s schemes are reaching the beneficiaries thus making the BJP popular among the voters. Right from the free food scheme started during Covid-19 to free Covid vaccination the government has ensured that its schemes directly benefit the public. Several schemes like Nal Se Jal, PM Awas, Swachh Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, DBT scheme, start-up India, Skill India, Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao, Mudra Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi among others have brought a big change in the lives of a large section of the society. Modi government’s schemes to make women self-reliant have seen a large number of women voting for the BJP in elections after elections in these 10 years.

India as a true global force

PM Modi has been ensuring that the world perceives India as a dynamic and influential global player which is open to business, innovation, and collaboration. Believing in India as a nation of immense economic potential, technological prowess, and a hub for investment and entrepreneurship he has been relentlessly trying to portray India as a responsible and reliable partner on the global stage that is committed to addressing key challenges like climate change, sustainable development, and terrorism.

The soaring popularity graph of PM Modi

PM Modi is the most popular face of the BJP and thus the party has been designing its poll strategies around him. The party went to the public with PM Modi’s face in the 2023 Assembly polls and won in Hindi Heartland states of MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Additionally, PM Modi’s popularity has seen a massive jump over these past 10 years both in the country and also globally. The BJP cashing in on this is aiming to secure a hat-trick in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and also crossig the 400 seat mark in the polls. He has been topping the global approval ratings charts since a long time.

What Opposition INDI Alliance lack?

As against PM Modi the Opposition INDI Alliance lacks a leader who could match his charisma. As the country goes to polls the INDI Alliance seems to have failed to resonate with the people. Lack of a common agenda, lack of a consensus candidate and above all the 26 parties going in all directions just to keep themselves relevant politically are some things that the voters will not like. The INDI ALliance is yet to put up a joint front where the people can see all its leaders on one platform. TMC leader Mamata Banerjee seems the most skep[tical about the Alliance and thus has decided to go solo in West Bengal. Similarly, several Opposition partners are squabbling among themselves in Maharashtra and Bihar to get the most from the seat-sharing arrangement.

The Congress which is the largest party within the alliance is struggling with its fast dwindling mass base in most states. Their leader Rahul Gandhi is yet to make a mark before the public after losing two consecutive Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and 2019. Additionally, most Alliance leaders do not want to rally behind Rahul Gandhi and see him as a failed leader who is not capable of taking the Alliance forward. The people see these factors as impediments and thus do not see much hope with the Opposition Alliance at a time when PM Modi is already planning to make India the third biggest economy in the world and making India a Viksit Bharat by 2027!
