New Delhi: Has MS Dhoni aggravated his knee injury once again? A video of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend limping while walking towards the dressing room from the ground has left the fans concerned. Dhoni was spotted limping after his vintage knock against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vizag on Sunday, March 31. The legendary wicket-keeper batter rolled back the years with his 16-ball 37 but failed to take his side home in their 192-run chase.

CSK were reeling at 120/6 in the 17th over in the 192-run chase when Dhoni walked out to bat for the first time in IPL 2024 amid loud cheers from the crowd. He went on to play an unbeaten knock of 16-ball 37 studded with three sixes and 4 fours as he left the fans nostalgic with his hitting prowess. However, his heroics were not enough as CSK ended up losing the game by 20 runs to suffer their first defeat of the season.

Nonetheless, it was a memorable game for millions of fans around the country, who were eagerly waiting for the legendary wicket-keeper batter to bat for the first time in IPL 2024. However, Dhoni’s video of limping while walking out of the ground has left them concerned. The 42-year-old played with a knee injury throughout IPL 2023 last year but didn’t miss a single game for CSK.

He underwent knee surgery in Mumbai immediately after CSK’s title triumph but Dhoni doesn’t seem to have recovered fully yet. The wicket-keeper batter, who doesn’t play any form of competitive cricket apart from IPL, showed no signs of rustiness with the bat but the same can’t be said about his knee issue after CSK shared a video of him limping off the ground.

“A gift for the fans he said,” CSK captioned the video which raised eyebrows on social media.

CSK’s top order fails to deliver

Chennai Super Kings’ top order failed to deliver against Delhi Capitals on Sunday which led to their first defeat in the tournament. Both openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra were dismissed for single-digit scores in the Powerplay which left CSK reeling on 7/2 in the run-chase and they never managed to recover.

While Gaikwad departed for just 1 run off 3 balls, Ravindra could only manage 2 runs off 12 balls. A little too much was left for Dhoni to achieve towards the end as his 16-ball 37 didn’t prove to be enough to take CSK home in the 192-run chase. CSK lost their first game of the season as Delhi Capitals got off the mark in the tournament with the 20-run win.
