Bhubaneswar: Two road accidents in Odisha on Sunday killed at least 5 people and left 15 injured. While one road accident took place on NH-49 near Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district, the second one happened near Aradi Chhak in Bhadrak district.
Pick-up van collides with truck
In the first accident a pick-up van collided head-on with a truck on NH-49 near Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda district. This happened at 10:30 in the morning, according to police officials.
In the accident 4 people died while 9 were injured. The truck which was loaded with coal overturned after it hit the pick-up van. The injured were admitted to Lakhanpur Community Health Centre. Later on those seriously injured were shifted to the district hospital in Jharsuguda.
The bodies of those who were killed were sent to the hospital for autopsy and the family members informed. The police have launched an investigation to find out the reasons for the accident.
Vehicle carrying pilgrims collides with truck in Bhadrak
In the second accident which took place in Bhadrak district, 1 person died while 6 were seriously injured. The accident took place after a vehicle carrying pilgrims from Puri collided with a truck. The passengers were on their way to Balasore, police said.
The accident happened at Aradi Chhak in Bhadrak in the wee hours of Sunday. In this accident, 1 person was killed at the spot, while 6 passengers were admitted to the Bhadrak District Hospital. Those admitted to hospital included 2 children.
Of the six people admitted to the hospital, 4 were in a critical condition and were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The police are now looking for the truck driver who fled the spot after the accident. Those who died and were injured hailed from Gopalpur in Bhadrak district. They were returning after visiting the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
