New Delhi: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shared a heartfelt wish for the India U19 cricket team ahead of their final against Australia in the U19 World Cup 2024 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Sunday. Yuvraj, a former U19 world champion, urged the Uday Saharan-led team to play with heart and express themselves in the final.
Yuvraj played an instrumental role in helping India claim their maiden U19 World Cup title in 2000. India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final to win the elusive title for the first time under the captaincy of former India batter Mohammad Kaif. Yuvraj was awarded the Player of the Tournament for scoring 203 runs and picking up 12 wickets in the tournament.
Yuvraj soon made his international debut for the senior national after shining in the U19 World Cup and later went on to win the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup titles in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Yuvraj was the hero of India’s title triumphs in both tournaments and impressed with his all-round heroics.
Sharing a piece of advice for the Boys in Blue ahead of their final, Yuvraj said the U-19 World Cup is not only about winning the trophy but creating a legacy that will shine on in the future. “To our young and talented U-19 boys team, as you go into the final today, we are cheering for you all! Play with heart and express yourselves. Winning the #WorldCup isn’t only about holding a trophy, it’s about igniting a legacy that will shine on into the future. All the best,” Yuvraj wrote in a tweet.
