‘Results, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn’t’: MI skipper Hardik Pandya philosophical after 3rd loss

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya demanded more “courage” and “discipline” from his players after they slumped to their third successive loss in IPL 2024.

Mumbai hosted Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday but were beaten by six wickets. They were invited to bat first and could only manage 125/9, which Rajasthan overhauled with 27 balls remaining.

The loss MI at the bottom of the standings while Rajasthan soared to the top spot after their third straight victory.

Mumbai fell behind from the very beginning, getting reduced to 20/4 and never recovering from that disastrous start, leaving Pandya ruing the “tough night”.

“We didn’t start the way we wanted to, tough night tonight,” Hardik said after their loss.

“Results, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t think much surprises me any more.

“But as a group we believe we can pull off a lot of better things going forward and we just need to be more disciplined and show more courage.”

Pandya tried to resurrect their innings but his dismissal after a 21-ball 34 in the 10th over to Yuzvendra Chahal diminished their hopes considerably.

“I think we were in a decent position to give us a chance to get to 150 or 160 but I think my wicket changed the game and brought them more in the game and I think I could have done better,” he said.

Rajasthan produced a top bowling performance with with Chahal (3/11) and Trent Boult (3/22) setting up their win.

Pandya said that is a good sight for bowlers to dominate batters sometime as the game is quite cruel to them. But it was unexpected and it’s about doing the right things at the right time.
