Balasore: In a shocking incident a man in Odisha’s Balasore district hired a hitman to kill his brother over a land dispute. As per the police, the murder took place on Tuesday, but the body of the victim was recovered after three days of frantic search.
The police further said that the the 28-year-old Bijay Raut had paid Rs 1.70 lakh to get his brother Bhavani killed whose body was found near a lake. Apart from Bhavani, the body of his friend Manoranjan Mohapatra was also found near the lake. The friend was allegedly killed after he saw Bhavani’s kidnap. Both the bodies were dumped near the lake.
Six accused held
After the interrogation, the police arrested six men including Bijay who had hired the hitmen. The probe in the case had earlier started after Bijay complained to the police about his missing brother. During the investigation, Bijay however broke down and confessed to the crime. As per the police, one of the accused is still untraceable and efforts are on to nab him too at the earliest
In another incident on the same day in the district, the body of a woman in a decomposed condition was found in a pond in the Jaleswar area. Sharing details, the police said that the woman would have been between 30 to 35 years of age. It is suspected that she was murdered and the body dumped in the pond, they added. It is suspected that she has been murdered. The police have started the investigation and efforts are on to nab the culprits.
In November last year, the police arrested a 25-year-old man named Ganesh Patra for allegedly murdering his wife and daughter using a venomous king cobra. The incident reportedly occurred in Ganjam district.
