‘Such teams never win’: Ambati Rayudu slams RCB, sums up their abysmal record in IPL after defeat against LSG

New Delhi: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star and six-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Ambati Rayudu lashed out at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team management and their star players after the team’s 28-run defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024 on Tuesday. RCB slipped to their third defeat in four matches this season after failing to chase down the target of 182 runs at their home ground.

LSG rode on a brilliant knock of 81 runs off 56 deliveries from opener Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran’s quickfire cameo of unbeaten 40 off 21 balls to post a decent total of 181 runs on the board in 20 overs after being asked to bat first in the game. The total was chasable considering the batting-friendly conditions at the Chinnaswamy and the home support for RCB.

However, their top order failed to deliver once again as the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and skipper Faf du Plessis all endured disappointing outings. LSG pacer Mayank Yadav ran riot with the ball as he recorded exceptional figures of 3/14 off his 4 overs to decimate the RCB batting line-up and set up a comfortable win for his team.

Mahipal Lomror played like a lone warrior for RCB in the middle order, however, his sensation 13-ball 33 was not enough to take his team over the line. Slamming RCB after their defeat, Rayudu said their bowling always concedes over-par runs and the batting underperforms which is the reason why they have struggled over the years. The former CSK batter said teams like RCB can’t win the title because their big names all bat in the top order and there is no one to rescue the team under pressure.

“I feel their bowling always gives over-par runs and batting performs under par. No big-name batter is seen playing for RCB when they are under pressure. Such teams never win. This is why they have not won the IPL for so many years,” Rayudu said on Star Sports.

Big-name players go at the top and leave: Rayudu

Hinting at Lomror’s fighting knock in the lower-middle order, Rayudu pointed out how RCB have their young players down the order while the big names are all sitting at the top. He said this has been RCB’s issue over the years and it is the reason why they are yet to win their maiden IPL title.

“All young players keep playing down the order and the big-name players go at the top and leave after eating the cake over the cream. If you see, who were the batters batting under pressure – your young Indian batters and Dinesh Karthik,” said Rayudu.

“Your big-name international players, who need to take the pressure, where were they? All of them were in the dressing room. This is not happening today. This has been this team’s story for the last 16 years,” he concluded.

While Du Plessis and Kohli, the two most experienced batters in the team, open for the franchise, Maxwell and Green also bat in the top order. None of them managed to play an impactful knock against LSG on Wednesday as RCB crumbled under pressure in their 182-run chase. With the defeat, RCB are now reeling at the 9th spot on the IPL 2024 points table with just two points from their first four matches this season.
