Suji Upma recipe: How to make perfect upma with veggies [Step-by-step guide]

Upma is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish made by simmering roasted rava/suji, vegetables, and spices in tempered boiling water. It can be a healthy and satisfying option for breakfast if prepared with the right ingredients and cooking methods. Ingredients for making vegetable upma

Semolina / Suji/Rava – 1 cup
Oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves- A few
Green chilli – 1 Slited
Split black gram / Urad dal – 1 tsp
Split bengal gram / Chana dal – 1 tsp
Roasted Peanuts – 1 tbsp
Onion – 1/2 Finely chopped
Carrot- 1/2 Finely chopped
Salt – As per taste
Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Lemon juice- 1/2 lemon
Water – 2 cups
Coriander leaves- A handful

Method of cooking vegetable upma

Roast semolina for 2 minutes on medium flame till the nice aroma begins to rise.
Stir it continuously. Once done, turn off the flame and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilli. Saute it for a few seconds on medium flame.
Then add urad dal, chana dal, and peanuts. Mix well. Saute it for 1 minute on medium flame.
Now add onion and carrot. Mix well. Saute it for 1 to 2 minutes on medium flame.
Add salt, red chilli powder, and roasted semolina. Mix well.
Then add lemon juice and water. Mix well.
Garnish at last with coriander leaves and ghee. Serve this upma with chutney or sambar as you like.
