Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Assembly session is to begin with the Governor’s address to the House on Monday. It may be recalled that during last year’s budget session, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi skipped parts of the address prepared by the state government with references made to secularism, Periyar, BR Ambedkar, K Kamaraj, CN Annadurai and Karunanidhi and added paras on his own. After Chief Minister MK Stalin moved a resolution urging the Speaker to take on record only the approved text of the speech, Governor RN Ravi staged a walkout from the House.
Governor RN Ravi to address the House at 10 am
According to the assembly schedule today, Speaker M Appavu and Assembly Secretary Srinivasan will welcome Governor Ravi with a bouquet of flowers at the entrance of the Assembly premises at 9.55 am. Following this, the Governor will be given a police parade to give a speech with red carpet honours.
Then Governor RN will ask the Speaker and Assembly Secretary to go before the House Marshal. When the Speaker takes his seat in the House, a Tamil Thai greeting will be sung. After that the Governor will address the House in English. After he finishes his speech, Speaker Appavu will read the Tamil version of the Governor’s speech. The day’s congregational events will conclude with the National Anthem.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is set to present the state budget for 2024-25 on February 19.
