Square Enix has announced the release of Final Fantasy XVI’s final DLC chapter — The Rising Tide — on April 18, 2024. The new chapter comes after the release of Echoes of the Fallen DLC last December and follows the events that take place before the ending of the main game. Square Enix says that the DLC includes “plenty for fans”. It is available to buy individually as well as in the discounted Expansion Pass on the PlayStation Store. Let’s take a detailed look.

New skills and abilities

The Rising Tide DLC takes the protagonist on a journey to save the Dominant of Leviathan– the elusive Eikon of Water. Clive’s journey in Mysidia also lets him obtain new Eikonic Abilities of Leviathan the Lost. These skills allow you to tame the tides and drown your enemies both near and far. It also includes an all-new Eikonic Feat– Serpent’s Cry, allowing Clive to summon a sea-spitting serpent capable of dealing precision strikes to enemies at great distances. The paid DLC raises the level cap to level 60 in Story-Focused Mode and Action-Focused Mode or level 110 in Final Fantasy Mode (New Game+).

New locations and enemies

The Rising Tide DLC also includes side stories to let you learn more about the area and people of Mysidia. The expansion will include new threats and a new stage, once a bastion of civilisation but reduced to ruins. The Rising Tide also brings the highly anticipated confrontation between Clive and the legendary Eikon, Leviathan.

More content and bonus

The final DLC also introduces a new endgame battle content– Kairos Gate, which gets unlocked after completing both The Rising Tide and main game scenarios. Those who purchase The Rising Tide or the Expansion Pass will receive special bonus items, including a reimagined version of the “Curtana,” the signature weapon used by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV. Additionally, “Torn from the Heavens” and “Through the Maelstrom” Orchestrion Rolls will be added as background music in the hideaway.

Notably, the free update (version 1.30) for Final Fantasy XVI comes on the same day as The Rising Tide release.
