New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini on Thursday said that the Congress must learn from Prime Minister Narendra Modi about respecting women. She also hit back at the main opposition party saying that its leaders target ‘popular’ personalities only to get political mileage.

The actor-turned-politician was responding to a question over alleged derogatory remarks against her by Congress leader Randeep Surjewala. “On Congress leader Randeep Surjewala’s statements on her, BJP MP Hema Malini said, ” They (Congress) target only popular people because targeting the unpopular ones won’t do them any good… They should learn how to respect women from PM Narendra Modi,” said Hema Malini.

“BJP’s IT Cell has developed a habit of editing, distorting and spreading fake news so that it can distract the country from the Modi government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and failures and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India,” he wrote in hs X post..

BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya shared an undated video on X in which the Congress MP is purportedly making some objectionable remarks about the actor-politician while attacking the ruling party.

Referring to Malviya’s post, Surjewala said that the video posted by the BJP leader has been edited, distorted and shared to distract the country from the Modi government’s anti-youth, anti-farmer, anti-poor policies and its conspiracy to destroy the Constitution of India.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi while attacking the Congress party stated “This is a new low to disrespect and demean the dignity of women in Indian politics by the Congress party. On one side, there is PM Modi who named the south pole of the moon where India became the first country to land as the ‘Shiv-Shakti’ point and on the other side it’s Congress and their statements about women.”

“This is not just merely an isolated statement by a Congress leader but a structured and well-thought-of dastardly mindset of the Congress party regarding the dignity of women…Hema Malini is of the age of Sonia Gandhi and she is a symbol of self-made women in post-independence India…” he added.
