New Delhi: India skipper Uday Saharan, left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey, and all-rounder Musheer Khan have been nominated for the ICC U19 World Cup Player of the tournament on Friday. “There have been many standout performers at this year’s edition of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup and the race to be named Player of the Tournament has been narrowed down to eight players,” ICC was qouted as saying in a statement issued.
Saumy has played a huge role in India’s successful campaign in the tournament, as he possess the ability to restrict the opponent’s scoring rate. His ecinomy rate of 2.44 is considered as one of the best in the tournament, where he has taken more than five wickets and he also has taken three four-fers.
India’s star all-rounder Musheer Khan became the only player to have scored a double ton in this tournament, as his first hundred came against New Zealand as he had scored a brilliant knock of 131 runs. His all-round ability was visisble in when he took some crucial wickets and helped the team reach its last four stages.
India skipper Uday Saharan’s growth has gone from strength to strength throughout this tournament, where he scored match-winning knock of 81 runs in the semifinal against South Africa and played a huge role in heklping the team reach the summit clash. He also smashed a hundred in the Super six match against Nepal and has adapted to his style of play according to the situations which he faced throughout the tournament.
The Protea pacer Kwena Mapheka has been the pick of the tournament, where he has taken 21 wickets and was just one wicket behind Bangladesh’s Enamel Haque Jr. way back in 2014.
Maphaka created his own record as he became the first player to take three fifers in a single edition of the tournament and that too at the age of 17.
