WATCH: Ishant Sharma nails a deadly toe-crushing yorker to bamboozle Andre Russell in DC vs KKR game

New Delhi: On a day when the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batters launched an absolute carnage against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Hyderabad, the experienced Ishant Sharma produced a brilliant last over to ensure the record for the highest total in IPL history remained intact. KKR batters went all guns blazing as half-centuries from Sunil Narine and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi along with sensational cameos from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh powered the team to a staggering total of 272 runs, the second-highest by any team in the history of IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders were 264/5 at the end of the 19th over, just 14 runs away from rewriting history by posting the highest total in the tournament’s history. With a well-set Andre Russell on the strike, KKR appeared favourites to break the record set by Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season. SRH had smashed 277 runs in the group-stage clash against Mumbai Indians at their home.

However, Ishant nailed a stunning toe-crushing yorker to rattle Russell’s stumps on the very first delivery of the 20th over. The experienced Indian pacer bowled a brilliant yorker which breached Russell’s defence and saw him fall on the floor awkwardly. Russell was sent back after scoring 41 off 19 balls and his dismissal ensured DC could safeguard SRH’s record for the highest total in IPL history.

Narine, Russell power KKR to 2nd highest total in IPL history

While they missed out on the IPL record of 277 runs by a whisker, some stunning batting from the entire KKR line-up saw them post the second-highest total of 272 runs in the tournament’s history. The carnage began in the Powerplay after Narine decided to take the Delhi Capitals bowlers to the cleaners before the likes of Raghuvanshi, Russell, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rinku all joined the party.

Narine top-scored for KKR with 85 runs off just 39 balls studded with seven sixes and seven fours. Raghuvanshi scored 54 off just 27 deliveries while Russell slammed 41 off 19 balls laced with 4 fours and three sixes. Iyer scored 18 off 11 balls to ensure he continued the momentum while Rinku played a sensational cameo of 8-ball 26 to help KKR go past the 270-run mark in Vizag.
