New Delhi: Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad turned out out to be Gujarat Titans (GT)’s trump card in their clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday, March 31. Noor bowled a beauty to clean up in-form Travis Head in the game. Head had settled down well and looking to take off when Noor clipped his wings with a brilliant delivery.

The dismissal took place in the 7th over of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s innings after they won the toss and opted to bat first against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Head opened the batting with Mayank Agarwal and the duo added 34 runs for the first wicket. Azmatullah Omarzai drew the first blood for GT by dismissing Mayank on 16 in the 5th over before another Afghan struck for the team in the 7th over.

GT skipper Shubman Gill introduced spin early into the attack against the dangerous Head and the move paid off as the left-arm spinner struck in his very first over. He bowled a wrong-un, slow through the air as the ball pitched slightly offside stump and turned in sharply to rattle Head’s stumps. The SRH opener departed after scoring only 19 runs off 14 balls.

It was a crucial wicket for the Gujarat Titans as Head could have taken the game away from them had he managed to play a big innings. The Australian batter was one of the architects in chief in SRH’s demolition of Mumbai Indians at their home in their last game.

The left-hander smashed a stunning 24-ball 62 to set the stage for a massive total for the hosts as they went on to plunder a whopping 277/3 in 20 overs to set the record for the highest total by any team in IPL history.

SRH post 162/8 on the board

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to post 162/8 on the board in 20 overs against Gujarat Titans after a disciplined performance from the opposition bowlers. Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad top-scored for SRH with 29 runs apiece while Heinrich Klaasen could only manage 24 off 13 deliveries as he failed to convert his start into a big score.

The onus will be on the bowlers now to stop the Gujarat Titans from chasing down the target on a surface which has looked good for the batters so far this season. Both SRH and GT have one win each from their first two matches of the season.
