New Delhi: Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is reportedly set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Rumours have gone viral on social media that the 2011 World Cup hero is likely to contest elections from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. Bollywood actor Sunny Deol from the BJP is the incumbent MP from Gurdaspur.
The rumours of Yuvraj entering politics and joining the BJP went viral after his recent meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Gadkari met Yuvraj and his mother Shabnam Singh in New Delhi on Friday, February 09 and shared a video from their meeting. Yuvraj, who retired from all forms of cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup in 2019, has never expressed his desire to join politics.
However, as per a report in News 24, Yuvraj is expected to be fielded from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general elections and can become BJP’s face in the constituency after Sunny Deol. If true, Yuvraj will join some of his former India teammates, including the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh in entering into politics.
