’12 attempts, 7 Mains, 5 interviews, NO SELECTION’: UPSC aspirant shares struggle in viral tweet

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the results for the Civil Services Exam 2023 on Tuesday. While Aditya Srivastava, an IIT Kanpur graduate, secured AIR 1 in the UPSC 2023, a UPSC aspirant shared the his struggle in an X post.

“12 attempts, 7 main, 5 interview. NO SELECTION. Shayad zindagi ka dusra naam hi sangharsh hai (Maybe struggle is just another name for life),” Kunal R Virulkar wrote. He also posted a picture of himself outside the UPSC headquarters in Delhi.

The tweet has gone viral on the microblogging platform, garnering more than 2.1 million views. Netizens took to the comments section to motivate Kunal.

One user said, “If perseverance had a face. More power to you @kunalrv.” Another added, “Salute to your dedication sir ! Learned not to give up , you must have gained more knowledge than who got selected.#UPSC2023.”

Yet another wrote, “Bhai sahab. You might be having a very very strong reason to prepare. Giving 7 mains and 5 interview is not an easy thing. Good luck sir for whatever you do.”

This year, a total of 1,016 candidates have cleared the UPSC exam and have been recommended for appointment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services Group A and Group B.

The UPSC Civil Service Preliminary Examinations for 2023 were held on May 28. The UPSC Mains exam took place on September 15, 16, 17, 23, and 24, 2023. The final interview rounds were conducted from January 2 to April 9, 2024, in phases.
