New Delhi: A clash erupted between militants and security forces in the Nowpora area of Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. Confirming the incident, a senior police official disclosed that intelligence had alerted them to the presence of two militants.

Subsequently, a joint operation involving the army and CRPF was launched, based on information provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The encounter ensued when the militants initiated gunfire upon the search party, triggering a response from the security forces, the official stated.

“As nightfall approaches, additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the area. Anticipating the advantage darkness could provide to the militants, measures such as deploying large searchlights and sealing entry and exit points have been implemented,” he added. It was reported that a civilian sustained injuries from gunfire during the encounter. During the operation, security forces successfully recovered a pistol along with other war-like stores.
