The biographical drama film will be on Netflix on April 12, 2024. In the upcoming movie, Diljit plays the titular role and brings the controversial life of blockbuster Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila to the world of OTT. The flick also features actress Parineeti Chopra as his wife Amarjot Kaur.
Lauding Diljit’s performance in Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz stated that he was extremely happy to welcome this freshness into his life. “He has achieved a lot but I can bet on it, this is just the beginning. Wherever he will go, we will go with him,” he added.
Who was Amar Singh Chamkila?
The legendary singer is often referred to as Punjab’s original rockstar. He rose to immense fame in the 1980s for his bold and provocative lyrics. His songs addressed social issues and taboos. Chamkila’s unique style blended traditional Punjabi folk music with contemporary themes. He was killed by unknown gunmen with his singer-wife Amarjot in 1988.
