New Delhi: In a brazen act of trickery, a Bengaluru man fell victim to an attention-diversion fraud losing Rs 2 lakh as a fraudster threw a few notes on the road to trick him. Dhananjaya, a resident of Mayanna Layout, had planned to deposit the substantial sum at a Karnataka Bank branch on Hesaraghatta Main Road.

As Dhananjaya reached the bank on the 19th, the bank had closed by the time he arrived, forcing him to return the following day. However, as he approached his car, a stranger approached him, claiming that Dhananjaya had dropped some notes on the road.

Unrevealed to Dhananjaya, this was a carefully orchestrated plan. As he bent to collect the “lost” notes, the perpetrator stealthily snatched the cash bag from the front passenger seat of his car and vanished from the spot, According to the Times of India.

According to Dhananjaya, the stolen bag contained Rs 2 lakh, leaving Dhananjaya distraught and bewildered. He immediately reported the incident to the Bagalagunte police, who registered a case under IPC Sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

The police are now on the lookout for the elusive miscreant, described by Dhananjaya as a 30-year-old Kannada-speaking male.
