New Delhi: Marcus Stoinis stole the show at the Chepauk stadium powering Lucknow Super Giants to a big win over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2024 clash. Chasing a massive total of 211, LSG registered a historic run-chase as they pulled off a double win over CSK this season in what became one of the most interesting run-chases in IPL 2024.
Stoinis remained unbeaten on 124 off 63 balls as his deadly innings was laced with 13 fours and six sixes helping Lucknow complete a record run chase on Tuesday with three balls and 6 wickets to spare. This was also the highest individual score in IPL in a run-chase. LSG started off ordinarily losing Quinton de Kock for a duck while skipper KL Rahul could only get to 16 runs.
Stoinis’ single-handed show the turning point at Chepauk
Stoinis took charge of the chase single-handedly smashing the CSK bowlers all around the stadium for fours and sixes to hand the home side their second successive loss. The hard-hitting batter’s unprecedented innings became the turning point as it took the game into LSG’s court from CSK’s home ground. Not for a moment did Stonis let go of the rhythm as it seemed that he came out on the field with clear plan of attacking and pocketing another win over CSK.
Meanwhile, Devdutt Paddikal and Nicholas Pooran too tried to join the Stonis show but remained unsuccessful with scores of 13 and 34 respectively. Deepak Hooda played a fiery cameo of 17 runs in just 6 balls and Stonis ended the chase with a boundary.
Gaikwad’s ton in vain
Earlier, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with a superb 60-ball unbeaten 108 as Chennai Super Kings posted a challenging 210 for 4 . Gaikwad’s knock, his second IPL hundred, was studded with 12 fours and three sixes. Shivam Dube muscled his way to a 27-ball-66, hitting seven sixes. For LSG, Matt Henry took for 1 for 28.
