New Delhi: It was masterclass and craziness at the same time as Jos Buttler set the Eden Gardens on fire on Tuesday night producing one of the greatest knocks in the history of the Indian Premier League during a chase. When the doors seemed shut for the Rajasthan Royals, Buttler opened the windows and the eyes of the opposition and the fans in the stands with a sensational unbeaten hundred to help the Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 wickets for yet another win in IPL 2024.
In just 60 balls, Buttler scored 107 runs studded with nine boundaries and six massive sixes to power RR to their sixth victory in the 17th edition of the cash-rich league. It was a single-handed show from the English player who pushed the KKR team against the wall and dashed their hopes of a win at their home venue.

Buttler helps RR better own record
Needless to say that such a powerful knock brought some records in kitty as it was obvious from the kind of innings the dangerous England batter produced. Smashing his second ton in IPL 2024, Buttler helped RR to better their own record set in the year 2020 of the highest run chase in the history of IPL. RR had chased down 224 runs against Punjab Kings four years back, winning the encounter by 4 wickets. In Tuesday’s match against KKR, the Sanju Samson-led side chased down the same score but won the tie by 2 wickets.
The third highest successful run chase has been registered by Mumbai Indians in 2021 edition against Chennai Super Kings, when they chased down 219 winning the contest by 4 wickets.
RR cruising towards knockouts
As many as six victories in seven encounters they have played, the Royals are cruising towards the knockouts and will sure shot become the first team to qualify for the knockouts. An above-par performance in all the games, a remarkable net run rate by virtue of it and luck which has favoured them to the fullest, RR seem to a the first contenders for not only the knockouts but the title race as well.
