Mumbai: Pradosh Vrat is observed on the days dedicated to Lord Shiva, and those who perform this fast and worship according to the rituals experience happiness. People who observe this fast in a prescribed manner receive rewards equivalent to donating a hundred cows, as well as relief from all their sorrows. A fast of this kind is observed twice a month.

As part of the Pradosh Vrat, Lord Shiva along with Mata Parvati and Lord Ganesha are worshipped. According to the Hindu tradition, Hindu Nav Varsh began on April 9, on the Pratipada Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of the Chaitra month. On Trayodashi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, the first Pradosh Vrat of the Hindu New Year is observed.

Ravi Pradosh Vrat 2024 Date and Time

Fasting is observed on Pradosh days, and Lord Shiva is worshipped in the evening.

The fast lasts approximately 45 minutes before sunset and 45 minutes after sunset. This is believed to be a time when Lord Shiva dances in joy, and worship performed during this period is said to yield quick and auspicious results. It is known as Ravi Pradosh Vrat when it falls on a Sunday.

This year, the last Pradosh of April, the first Pradosh of the Hindu New Year, will be Ravi Pradosh Vrat.

During the month of Chaitra, Ravi Pradosh Vrat will be observed on Sunday, April 21, 2024. It is believed that those who observe this fast will be blessed with good health, wealth, respect, and a long life.

Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month will begin on April 20, 2024, at 10:41 PM and end on April 22, 2024, at 01:11 AM, according to the Panchang. As per sunrise timings, Ravi Pradosh Vrat will be observed on April 21, and Shiva puja will be held between 06:51 PM and 09:02 PM.

Pradosh Vrat carries a special significance due to its association with Lord Shiva. Ravi Pradosh Vrat brings happiness, peace, and a long life. Furthermore, this fast is directly related to Lord Surya. People with a weak Sun in their horoscope should definitely observe Pradosh Vrat. As a result of this fast, an individual gains social recognition, fame, and honour. On this day, performing abhishek of Lord Shiva with raw milk strengthens the Moon in the horoscope and relieves Saturn’s Mahadasha.

How to Perform Ravi Pradosh Vrat Puja

During Ravi Pradosh Vrat, pour kesar and flowers into milk and offer them to Shiva Lingam. There is a belief that it sweetens married life. Make rotis from barley flour and offer them to Lord Shiva. Feed these rotis to calves or cows. The act is considered very auspicious for gaining wealth, fame, and prosperity.
