Posted by New Delhi: Actor Shekhar Suman made his acting debut opposite legendary actress Rekha with the erotic drama Utsav in 1984. The film featured intimate scenes between Shekhar and Rekha and now, the actor opened up about the same. He gave a big shoutout to Rekha’s professionalism as he recalled shooting the intimate scenes and shared how she didn’t forbid him from touching her in certain places.

Revisiting Utsav shoot, Shekhar Suman praised Rekha’s demeanour despite her stardom. “She never forbade me from touching her in certain places or saying anything in those scenes, unlike other actresses. She was an absolute professional. I’ll forever be indebted to her,” he told Youtuber Siddharth Kannan.
When Rekha faced income tax raid
Shekhar Suman also recalled the first day of shoot of Utsav when Rekha faced income tax raid but she remained committed to shooting the film. “I have never met a more professional actor than her (Rekha). I remember that she had a massive income tax raid on the first day of the shoot. Any other actor would have packed their bags and gone away. She said, ‘Let them do their job, I’ll stay back, and I will do mine’,” he said.
Suman also expressed gratitude to the late Shashi Kapoor for providing him with a breakthrough opportunity. The actor shared, “This was probably the most unprecedented break for any newcomer in the history of Indian cinema. In 15 days, I’d been signed for the film. I hadn’t even opened my suitcases yet. And in two months, I was on set, shooting with Rekha. I will forever be obliged to Shashi Kapoor, Girish Karnad, Rekha, all of them.”

Meanwhile, Shekhar Suman will be next seen in Heeramandi, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is all set to release on Netflix on May 1.
