At least 44.51% polling was registered by 12 pm in the Mahabubnagar local authorities constituency MLC election on Thursday, Tv9 telugu reported.

In this by-election, Manne Jeevan Reddy of Congress, Naveen Kumar Reddy of BRS and Independent candidate Sudarshan Goud are in the fray but the main fight seems to be between the Congress and BRS.

Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, who is the MLC of the local bodies, won as Kalvakurti MLA in the recently held assembly elections and later resigned from the post of MLC, which is the reason for the election being held.

10 polling centers have been set up within Mahbubnagar district and 888 Councilors, 449 MPTC, 83 ZPTC and 19 ex-officio members of the respective Municipal Corporations will exercise their right to vote. There are a total of 1,439 voters and votes will be counted on April 2. Heavy security has been deployed at the polling stations as voting kicked off.

BRS majority in local bodies:

The BRS has absolute majority in local bodies as the party had made a clean sweep in local bodies during 2019 elections. Out of 1,439 representatives, 1,039 belong to the BRS. It is expected to be an easy win for the BRS but in the context of several defections from the BRS in recent times, it has to be seen if the BRS will walk away with this by-election.

The BRS had even shifted over 500 of its local representatives to camps in Goa and Ooty to prevent poaching by Congress while Congress to shifted 700 representatives to Kodaikanal and Goa.
