Bengaluru: After losing job, woman techie steals 24 laptops from PGs and hotels; arrested

Bengaluru: The HAL Police have arrested a woman techie on the charges of stealing 24 laptops worth Rs 14-15 lakh. The accused was arrested after multiple complaints of laptop thefts from Paying Guests (PGs) and hotels in the city.

The arrested woman has been identified as Jassie Agarwal (26), a native of Noida, Uttar Pradesh. After she lost her job in a private bank last year, she concentrated on stealing laptops.

Jassie targeted PGs and hotels in the city. She used to get accommodation at various PGs in the city claiming that she had come to attend interviews. She kept an eye on neighbouring rooms. When the inmates moved out of the room for snack or tea break, Jassie used to steal the laptops. After committing the crime, she used to change her accommodation.

The incident came to light after multiple complaints were registered at Koramangala, HAL and Indiranagar police stations.

The police based on the CCTV footage and other digital evidence zeroed in on Jessie and during interrogation, she spilled the beans.

The police said that the accused used to sell the stolen laptops in the black market in Noida for a cheaper rate. The police claim that she had stolen at least 24 laptops worth Rs 14-15 lakh.

With the arrest, the police have solved 24 theft cases. The cops are interrogating the accused to find out if she had committed similar crimes in other cities in the country.
