Calls grow louder for MS Dhoni’s participation in T20 World Cup 2024

New Delhi: Team India is facing a problem of plenty for wicket-keeping choices in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan are in contention for the T20 World Cup squad.

But one player who is making headlines in the IPL 2024 is MS Dhoni and many former cricketers feel that MS Dhoni can play in the upcoming mega event. Varun Aaron and Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports that no one will deny if Dhoni wants to play in the T20 World Cup.

“We could see a wildcard entry in India’s T20 World Cup squad… MS Dhoni’ says Varun Aaron.

“If he says he wants to play the T20 World Cup, no one will deny him that chance…no one will mind, no one will have a problem with it. The guy is batting so well” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.

The former CSK skipper has been in sensational form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He has scored 91 runs at a striker rate of 260 in the eight IPL matches. MS Dhoni scored 37* runs off 16 balls against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam. He smashed Hardik Pandya for three back-to-back in the 20th over against Mumbai Indians (MI) and against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the 42-year-old notched up 28* runs off 9 balls.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag also said on Cricbuzz that there is no one better than MS Dhoni in death overs and he can play a crucial role for Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“He has a 255 strike rate and doesn’t have an average because he hasn’t got out even for once. He has scored 87 runs from 34 balls. We don’t have much of a batting challenge in the first round and there will only be the keeping job. Batting will be important only against 3 teams – Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, and let’s say Pakistan as well. And those batting opportunities will come in the death overs so there’s no one better than him in that regard”.

CSK lost back-to-back matches against LSG

Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK lost two consecutive matches against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In the last match, CSK batted first and scored 210 runs in 20 overs. Gaikwad scored a brilliant century and Shivam Dube also scored 66 runs off 27 balls.

Chasing the target, LSG lost both the openers in the powerplay. Marcus Stoinis notched up a magnificent century, he scored 124* runs off 63 balls and took his team over the line. CSK is currently placed at the fifth spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
