Delhi experiences it warmest day of 2024, temperature 4 degrees above the seasonal norm

Delhi: The national capital witnessed its warmest day this year on Wednesday with temperatures touching as high as 37 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department, there was a notable deviation from the seasonal average temperature, with a remarkable increase of four degrees.

“On Wednesday, the capital experienced the warmest day, but due to the cloudy skies and light showers in some Delhi NCR areas, the heat was not felt,” said Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist and head of the local weather office, reported the Press Trust of India.

In April, he said, the national capital may experience rising temperatures.

Air quality index slightly improved

Meanwhile, throughout the day, the relative humidity varied between 82 percent and 33 percent. As reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 177, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”

He stated that in April, the capital city might encounter an increase in temperatures. According to the weather bureau, the upcoming three days are expected to bring overcast conditions along with light rain and drizzle. During this period, the highest temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees Celsius, while the lowest may drop to 20 degrees Celsius.

In the interim, the Weather Department has issued cautionary alerts due to the imminent threat of thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph in Assam and Meghalaya. Arunachal Pradesh, among the northeastern states, is forecasted to experience heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, according to predictions from the Weather Department.
